Abstract: The reason why American launched the Iraq war is complex. By analyzing the real reason for Iraq war, we can draw a conclusion that the Bush’ government didn’t fulfill its goal, but the people who supported the Iraq war absolutely supported Bush. So the Iraq war played a very important role in the 2004 American election.

1. Why American launched the Iraq war?

At the same time American developed a “three specific objectives”, namely, to maintain the security of the United States and its allies; expansion of the U.S. rights in the world promoting American-style democracy. After the Cold War, U.S. foreign policy on this is "one center, three basic points" launched. After the Cold War the United States use of the old pattern has been broken, this new structure have not yet been established "unprecedented" and "period of strategic opportunity" to step up the global strategic expansion [2], according to its own purpose attempt to establish a one-dominate world. Through the first Gulf War, the United States dealt a blow to regional hegemony in Iraq, dominated and controlled the situation in the Gulf region through NATO's eastward expansion and the Kosovo war, squeezing Russia's strategic space. Many people opposed the Iraq war. The various reasons for their opposition include, but are not limited to:
(a) War for oil
(b) False claims about WMD
(c) Invading without UN approval or acknowledgment that the weapons inspectors were given enough time to do their job
(d) Creation of more anti-West sentiment among Muslims who would become terrorists and join Al-Qaeda
(e) A desire for everything to be done peacefully
(f) The Iraqi people would not want us there
Let's look at each of these reasons in turn.
No doubt part of the reason for going to war was oil motivated (in that it was better for Americans to control the supply than Saddam) but if the US was just after the oil it would have been cheaper, less bloody and quicker to either get it direct from the Iraqis or buy it from the French, Germans and Russians who had deals with Saddam to supply oil.
